An example you can adapt

The sample program

4 weeks
Choose your own start and end dates.
300 minutes
One goal across the whole program.
Paper + digital
Offer the methods your library supports.

In this example, read-alouds, listening to audiobooks, independent reading, and rereading all count. Readers log minutes, with optional book titles. There is no daily streak, leaderboard, or weekly minimum.

Optional milestones: 75, 150, 225, 300 total minutes. Choose rewards, if any, that fit your budget.

Change the sample goal to suit your audience, then update the log, instructions, messages, and report to match.

6 / Closeout report

End-of-program report

Use one reading date range and one entry cutoff. Adapt the goal to your published rules before calculating totals.

Download reporting outline (.txt)
  1. Library / program / staff lead: ____________________________________
  2. Reading date range: __________________ through __________________
  3. Entry cutoff / report prepared date: ______________________________
  4. Registered readers: ______ Unique participants enrolled in this program, counted once each. State how late joins or withdrawals are handled: __________________
  5. Active readers: ______ Registered readers with at least one valid, positive-minute entry in the reading date range, recorded by the cutoff.
  6. Goal completers: ______ Registered readers whose valid entries total at least 300 minutes within the stated range (or your published goal: ______).
  7. Logged minutes: ______ Sum of valid minute entries in the stated range. Resolve duplicate submissions before totaling; keep other metrics separate.
  8. Rewards actually collected: ______ Count completed pickups using staff records. Count each defined reward once; earned Awards alone do not establish pickup.
  9. Participation rate: ______% = active readers ÷ registered readers × 100. If registered readers = 0, report N/A.
  10. Completion rate: ______% = goal completers ÷ registered readers × 100. If registered readers = 0, report N/A.
  11. Organizer observations / reader feedback: __________________________
  12. Changes to try next time: _______________________________________

Use the same plan in Reader Zone

Set up the program in Reader Zone

Reader Zone Programs dashboard. Sample data. View full size
  1. 1

    Set the program structure.

Create a Reading Program and an appropriate Group with your dates and a 300-minute goal. Confirm entry settings match the submission deadline you announce.

  2. 2

    Choose how readers participate.

Share the Program Code with families using the app or Desktop Reader Portal. For patrons who need staff help, use Internal Readers and enter submitted reading.

  3. 3

    Add recognition where it fits.

Optionally configure Awards at 75, 150, 225, 300 minutes. Use Tasks for staff to record physical prize pickup. If you use a Raffle, announce who can enter; staff contact the winner.

  4. 4

Support readers and review the program.

Adapt the message copy for staff-sent or scheduled email/push messages. Use spreadsheet reports and your prize-pickup records to prepare the closeout outline.

Set up these steps in your account. For more detail, see the complete feature reference.

Make it fit your library.

Do we need Reader Zone to use the kit?

No. The paper log, staff plan, messages, CSV, and reporting outline can support a manual program. The optional software workflow is there when it is useful.

How do we include paper readers?

Choose a submission place, deadline, and staff recording method. Record each submission once. The paper-to-software guide explains the hybrid workflow.
