MODULE 1 - Building Adaptive Reading Programs

Paper reading calendars are cute, but obsolete
Paper reading calendars do not fit into the lives of today's families. Parent of young children are digital natives. They interact with the world through their smart phones.

Meet readers where they are with adaptable reading programs.

Paper reading calendars are a one-size-fits-all exercise that delivers the same reading program for a group, regardless of the levels of proficiency that exists within the group.

For example, in any given classroom of 30 students, you have:
8-10 who read above grade level
10-12 who hover around grade level
10-12 who read below grade level

When you create a single reading goal for the entire group, you're not serving two of three readers with a reading goal that matches their ability.

Creating reading programs that are adaptable to all levels of reading is possible and it's how you can encourage enthusiastic participation.

A willingness to adapt and change reading programs, even in the middle of the time frame if needed. There are no laws against scuttling a reading programs that simply is not working.

Adaptability is possible with today's technology. Build programs that meet readers where they are can be done with no more effort than required to copy and distribute the outdated paper reading calendar.

This module shows techniques to build reading programs that can be relevant to all your readers.
